Roger West and United Way GO GREEN to EARN GREEN for Tampa Bay’s Project Brightside

Tampa, Florida – December 23, 2008 – Roger West Creative and Code, an integrated marketing and technology company located in Tampa, FL, is hosting the second annual Tampa Bay Scramble Golf Tournament. This year, 100 percent of the proceeds from the event will be donated to United Way of Tampa Bay to benefit Project Brightside. Project Brightside helps Bay area families overcome barriers that stand in the way of allowing them to achieve overall economic stability.
The partnership between Roger West Creative and Code was established when Michael Westafer, CEO of Roger West Creative and Code, joined the Live United Network Steering Committee as a volunteer committee member. “At one of the steering committee meetings another member shared about Project Brightside and its mission. He mentioned a need and I mentioned Tampa Bay Scramble,” Westafer said.
Tampa Bay Scramble is a golf tournament that raises funds for a local charity. Teams of four play based on scramble scoring. “It’s a team-oriented event and provides a relaxing atmosphere for professionals to come together, build camaraderie, and raise money for an honorable cause,” said Westafer. Players pay a fee for a round of golf, which includes a luncheon and awards ceremony after following the scramble. Funds are also raised by collecting donations and raffling prizes, golf equipment and apparel, gift cards, and more. There will also be a silent auction featuring exotic golf getaways, golf memberships, and more.
“My company hosted the event in late 2007 and we have been gearing up to host it again in 2009,” said Westafer. “When I learned about the needs of United Way of Tampa Bay and Project Brightside it seemed like a perfect fit for our fundraiser,” he continued. The two groups met on December 22, 2008 to discuss the partnership and confirmed the event for spring 2009.
“We are looking forward to partnering with Roger West Creative and Code to help fund our Project Brightside,” said Karis Turner, Director of Leader Initiatives for the United Way of Tampa Bay .
